Chapter 9

Bob enjoyed writing and actually was far better then me. We loved to play Boggle and Scrabble and he would always win. I loved the game but it got tiresome never winning so I studied the dictionary for 3 weeks and then gave him a run for his money.  Yes, I could also win. hehe

We went through lots of tough times in all those years and did lots of fun things when we had nothing. We became interested in restoring old homes and Jeremiah and I would play sweepstakes. One day I picked Bob up at work and dragged him off to a sweepstakes for a new car.  We were driving this old vehicle with tons of miles. We drove it everywhere and even took on vacation once to Niagara Falls. We shopped at garage sales and antique shops all the way up and back with both kids and before we got home there wasn't much room left for the kids. LOL  But we had a blast. Anyway, this contest was going on and you would get keys to see if they fit. The man handed me a key to the lock on the steering wheel and no luck. Oh well I thought. He said try it again and I thought why is he trying to torture me.LOL  So, I did and so he handed the key to Bob after my frail attempts and nope.  I was ready to leave and he said try it again and handed me the key.  WOW.. it opened!!  So, here I sat in the showroom and had just won a red, convertible. I was so excited!!!!! I loved driving it but after about a year we decided to try to buy a home. We sold it and got a truck and I sold all my collectibles and started looking for something inexpensive that needed work. We bought a property on contract that was a historical old place that was also commercial... then another smaller place .. and then one more that no one could live in. That was the one we started on first. It was a wreck and we both worked very hard on it but we sure made it a home.

This is where we lived when Jeremiah wanted a piano and I honestly wanted him to have one. I placed a wanted to buy ad for a baby grand piano. I knew we couldn't afford anything great but thought an old one in good condition would work.  At first no response and I was a little disappointed. But a couple nights later the phone rang and a lady on the end said to me... " I am not sure why but I think I am suppose to sell you my piano." She told me that she never got the paper and for some reason had to have one this day. She had an old baby grand in need of a little work. So, we went and she even sold it to us on time. I called a piano tuner to come and check it out. He and his wife (Jim and Kathy) ended up helping to restore it teaching Jeremiah along the way. They were great people and I still think of them often. We would all sit and play music together and they have some wonderful songs they have written. Jeremiah begin taking lessons and became rather good and I started messing around with it. In the dark I would sit by candlelight and try to make up what I heard in my head. I have written a few songs and even though I don't play great I love trying.

Now, I had written out our goals for us to have a place paid for in 3 years. So, we fixed them up and sold the one we lived in and moved downtown to the commercial one which was now empty. One night a man came in and wanted to buy it and told me he had another property. I knew the house well for I had eyed it as the kids grew up. We went and looked at it and this house also needed a lot of work but this one was a stately queen anne and well built. So we worked out a deal and then sold the other small house. This was the first house where we actually could afford a few things. We hired some things done that we didn't before and one day while having a garage sale a man walked in and asked to buy it. It wasn't even done but Bob and I discussed it and decided to sell. The offer was too good to pass. We were great with old homes but somehow along the way we had drifted away from each other.

Things got really screwed up with the next house. We paid cash for it like on the goal list but put away too much money in it and things got tough. We ended up owing a bundle in taxes and now living in a house tore up that had to be finished. We did finish it together but more distance was already there between us. I was tired and I am sure he was too. I will never forget his impression of Bogie..... "Hey Sweetheart"..... or one of our favorite songs we sang together "Photographs and Memories"

And then we found the net and I found something I loved to do. I had no idea how to do a page or build anything in 3D. All I ever did with a computer was play a few games. But now I had found a place where I could write and people enjoyed reading it and I wanted to learn so much. I guess I got lost in the screen and the dreams of a place where I could be me. We ended up divorced after 21 years of marriage. It was not easy watching him leave but I knew he was ready to move on too. We both made lots of mistakes but all in all we didn't do bad. He will always hold a spot in my heart that will forever be special. These are a couple pages that were written for him :)
